Webinar #10: ‘Realizing Our Rights – Making Laws Work’, July 3, 2022

In this third of Varta Trust’s panel discussions to mark the pride season, Debjyoti Ghosh, human rights lawyer and postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Sociology, University of Pretoria, South Africa, will be in conversation with prominent speakers from the fields of social work and law. Dr. Aqsa Shaikh, an out and proud trans woman, is one of India’s first transgender doctors. She is Associate Professor of Community Medicine, Nodal Officer for COVID Vaccination Centre, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Jamia Hamdard, Delhi.

Biswa Bhusan Pattanayak is Assistant Director, SAATHII, Bhubaneswar Office – his career has been dedicated to working towards universal access to healthcare, education, social protection and social justice.

Dit Thoudam – a member of the Intersex Human Rights India, an Intersex Asia Fellow 2020-21, and a resident of Manipur.

Saptarshi Mandal is Associate Professor at the Jindal Global Law School, Sonipat. His teaching and research span family law, disability and mental health law, sexual violence, and the sociology of law.

Suraj Sanap is a research consultant with the Centre for Health Equity, Law and Policy (C-HELP), Pune, where he works on legal policy concerns on health, HIV and LGBTIQA+ communities through research, advocacy and litigation.
