Around 100 people turned up at a queer carnival organized by webzine Gaylaxy and gay dating app SCRUFF as a partner last week in Delhi. The venue was Gulmohar Club in Gulmohar Park area.

Music, dance, recitation, photographs, posters and a variety of artwork lent colour to the event. It generated considerable curiosity among residents of Gulmohar Park, many of whom dropped by to express their support for LGBTIQ communities.

The carnival was hosted by Mr. Gay World 2016 Anwesh Sahoo (below), who opened the event with a rendition of Sonu Nigam’s Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin from the film Agneepath.

Spicy Tutuboy, the artistic persona of Diniz Sanchez (above), co-hosted the event with Anwesh Sahoo. Soniya, an acid attack survivor (below), was among the speakers and had some encouraging words for all in the audience.

There were about 15 performances of dance, singing and recitation, which received considerable applause. Abheena Aher, transgender activist and founder of Dancing Queens, was among the most popular performers (see main photo).

Among the stalls was one by Posterwa – they had posters with queer-feminist themes on sale. There was KinkPin, an e-commerce venture that sells sexual health products in India. A third was by Indian Aces (below), which spreads awareness about asexuality.

All in all, the event was a heart-warming celebration of diverse queer expressions, and a welcome addition to the queer pride calendar of Delhi.
